Salon Melbourne 2014

Before heading to Salon Melbourne last Sunday, the hubs and I had a nice lunch over at Southbank. After lunch, I headed over to Salon Melbourne while the hubs went furniture shopping. The crowd as expected was crazy, so many people!! You can read about last years experience at Salon Melbourne here.

I stopped by OPI to have a look at the bargains that was available. It was $10 for one or buy six and get one free. I didn’t get anything because I wasn’t patient enough to wait around.

Klara Cosmetics was there this year. I didn’t know they had such a large range of makeup until I saw their store.

Orly was $10 for one or $25 for three. I was more interested in Orly than OPI because I’ve never tried any Orly nail products before, unbelievable hey?? Plus when I was there, the lovely lady at Orly was really friendly and helpful.

Here’s a photo of the crowd surrounding the Lime Crime store. IT WAS INTENSE!! I waited 35mins in that crowd to get served. Girls were pushing and shoving like it was free. The makeup were quite cheap with palettes $25, lipsticks $14, lip glosses $14 and eyeliners $11.

This is what I got:

  • Orly Nailtrition $8.33 ($25 for 3)
  • Orly Bonder $8.33 ($25 for 3)
  • Orly Flash Dry $8.33 ($25 for 3)
  • Lime Crime Eyeliner Lazuli $11
  • Lime Crime Eyeliner Reason $11

I’m on a budget which is why I didn’t buy much. I could only get the items I really really needed. The Lime Crime stuff was not a ‘need’ but because I waited 35mins in the crazy crowd, I had to get something to make my time worthwhile. While I was at Salon Melbourne, I also had the opportunity of attending the Rae Morris master makeup class. It was a very intimate class of about 30ish people. In the session, Rae gave us her tips, tricks and secrets. I took a lot of notes in the class, so if you are interested let me know and I can write-up a post on what I learnt. I had an awesome day at Salon Melbourne and I’m looking forward to attending next years.

Did you stop by Salon Melbourne and what did you buy?

VAMFF 2014 Backstage Runway 4

VAMFF 2014

Hi everyone!! Thursday night I had the pleasure of going backstage at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF), checking out all the glamorous hair and makeup for runway 4.

Runway 4 hair was effortless hair waves. Hair director for runway 4 was Brad Ngata and he shares his advice for creating his beautiful look:

The hair for show has opposing textures and a playful relaxed movement at the back and also a strict part in the front. The different textures are positioned in a way so that when the girls are walking down the catwalk, you get this beautiful high shine visible at the front and dry matte texture through the waves at the back – uptown in the front and downtown in the back.

It was my first experience being backstage at a fashion show and boyyy was it fun!! I was there backstage just watching how models, MUA and hairstylist prep for the show. A truly unbelievable experience by just being there. Here are some photos I took when I was lurking around backstage.

Outside the pier, L’Oreal has set up a boutique where you can go in and get a personalised makeup consultation done for free. I got one done and it was pretty nifty. The MUA sat me down and we went through every single makeup product from foundation to lip sticks that matched my skin tone. The products are then recorded into a small booklet or you can choose for it to be emailed to you. I’ve discovered a few L’Oreal base products I want to try now!!

I didn’t attend any runways this time but loved reading and looking at what next seasons outfits will be. The guests were also dressed very fashionable and I felt like a bit of a hobo being around the crowd haha! This is it for VAMFF for me, I wished I had more time to attend another one or two more backstage events. It was an amazing experience and thanks to L’Oréal Professionnel for inviting me along.

Did you attend any VAMFF runways?

Experience: Aurora Spa St Kilda

Aurora_Spa

Two weeks ago, I was invited to Aurora Spa to try out one of their signature Kerstin Florian facials, the Active Botanical Facial. Aurora Spa is located in the Prince Hotel on Acland St in St Kilda. It’s a place where you can just go in, relax and unwind. Aurora Spa therapeutic treatment includes steam treatments, advanced facial, body, massage and hands and feet treatments.

From the moment you walk upstairs to the timeout room, everything is setup to help you relax. I made my way upstairs to the timeout room, got a clipboard with a questionaire, filled in information about myself and what I was hoping to get out of the session. While filling out the form, the lovely therapist brought me a cup of warm tea.

Aurora Spa St Kilda experienceLook how pretty the timeout room looks! After filling in my details, I proceeded to go into the ladies room to get changed. Each locker has a robe, towel, slippers and disposable underwear provided.
Aurora Spa St Kilda experience The change rooms are very clean and luxurious, just the way I like it :). Here’s a photo of me in the nice comfy robe. As you can see from the photo, the lockers are to the right of me and the showers are on the left.
Aurora Spa St Kilda experience Prior to my facial, I got to meet Lyndall – the founder and director of Aurora! Lyndall talked about the history of Aurora, how she came up with the product range and the vision for the company. Lyndall then proceeded to give us a tour of Aurora.
Aurora Spa St Kilda experience This is the room where manicures and pedicures are done. Lyndall was telling us that for pedicures, clients sit back on the reclining chairs and the therapist will recline the chair back until you are horizontal. The client is also provided with an ipod to listen to relaxation tunes, which encourages complete relaxation. Sounds like total bliss to me! We then proceeded to tour the rest of the place. Look here’s Jenny in the photo!

After the tour, it was time for our facial. My beauty therapist was Reshe, she is so lovely. She took me into a small, dimly lit room. The room was at just the right temperature. I’ve been to some spas where the rooms were slightly too cold for me. As soon as I got on the massage bed, it was total bliss. Reshe examined my skin to determine what my skin type is and then proceeded to customise my facial. The facial I chose was the Active Botanical Facial, which is a customised botanical facial to help hydrate and nourish. The facial starts off with a double cleanse and tone, followed by a exfoliation treatment masque. While the masque was on, Reshe went on to massage my scalp, hands and arms. The pressure Reshe used was just right, not too firm or soft. I was really sad when the 60 mins was up because I didn’t want it to end!!

Overall, I left Aurora feeling like a million bucks. The experience from start to finish was amazing. The Active Botanical Facial costs $160 for 60 mins, more expensive than your usual facials but it’s well worth it. For the following few days, my face felt amazingly smooth and hydrated. I would advise going at least 15-20mins before your session starts. This gives your mind and body time to power down, otherwise you won’t feel the full potential of this amazing experience. If you are looking to spoil someone special or yourself, you definitely need to consider a treatment at Aurora Spa.

This was a complimentary treatment provided by Aurora Spa. All opinions are my own.
