Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry Epilator review

Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry Epilator review

Summer is here and you know what that means… hair removal! When I was in my mid teens going through puberty, I was a super hairy Asian believe it or not. My mum bought me my very first epilator when I was 16 after trying shaving/waxing and HATED it. Since then I’ve only used epilators on my legs. Back then technology was not as advanced as these days so when Philips contacted me and asked if I would like to try their Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry Epilator, I said yes immediately!

Oh by the way, if you don’t know what an epilator is – in very simple terms it’s a gadget with tiny tweezers to help remove the entire hair including the roots.

The Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet and Dry Epilator comes with 5 additional accessories to help remove any unwanted facial and delicate areas:

  • Shaving head
  • Trimming comb
  • Facial area cap
  • Delicate area cap
  • Massage cap

It also comes with a basic pouch for you to store the epilator, accessories and a cleaning brush.

When I first picked up my Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet and Dry Epilator, I put it on charge for 1.5hrs. After charging, it can be used up to 40mins before the battery runs out. There’s a battery indicator at the bottom of the handle that shows you when it’s fully charged or requires charging. The device comes with 2 speeds for you to adjust depending on how fast you want to remove those pesky hairs! One of the awesome features is the opti-light to ensure all hairs are removed. The device needs to be held at 90 degrees for best performance.

I mainly use epilators to remove hair on my legs and I don’t feel much pain or irritation because I’ve been using it for a really long time (10yrs+ so I don’t give away my age haha). If it’s your first time with an epilator, you might feel some pain and/or irritation but it won’t last long. I decided to try the Philips Epilator on my underarms too and you guessed right, it hurts like anything on the first go!! After my second time, the pain was no longer as intense.

The Philips Epilator is cordless so you can practically remove hair anywhere you want (in the toilet or even the backyard). Another advantage of this epilator is it can be used in the shower or bath! Almost forgot to mention that using the epilator in the shower will help reduce any pain or irritation as the warm water will open up the pores.

As an epilator veteran, I highly recommend to exfoliate once a week because occasionally epilating can cause ingrown hairs. But to be honest, it’s no biggie. Depending on your hair growth, I usually epilate my legs once every 3 weeks or sometimes 4 when I’m lazy.

To summarise what I like:

  • Can be used wet or dry
  • Cordless functionality – you can literally remove hair anywhere you want
  • The opti-light

The Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet and Dry Epilator retails for $149.95 and you can read more about it on the Philips site.

Real Techniques Ultimate Base Set & Miracle Sponge Review

Well hello there! What’s been happening peeps? We came back holidays last month so we’ve been trying to catch up with a few life admins and working on the backyard to make it more “presentable” and hopefully be able to plant some pretty flowers.

Today I’m going to talk about some new goodies that joined the Real Techniques range – Ultimate Base Set, Miracle Mini Eraser Sponge and the Miracle Sculpting Sponge.

The Expert Face Brush has taken the beauty community by storm. There are over 1800+ reviews on a leading online store, how impressive is that? First impression of this brush is that it’s similar to the Buffing Brush. After testing this baby out, the expert face brush is more dense and has shorter bristles. Because of the shorter bristles, it’s better at buffing in liquid foundation. I’ve tried this brush with NARS Sheer Glow and Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation. Both products applied smoothly without any yuckky streaking. The brush does soak up foundation and I would recommend to wash often.

This Deluxe Concealer Brush is perfect for around the eye area to help blend concealers. I use this with cream concealer and then a bit of powder to help set the concealer. The brush is dense with rounded bristles making application so easy.

The great thing about using makeup sponges is you can either use it damp or dry. I personally prefer to use mine damp because it creates a nice dewy coverage. The Miracle Complexion Sponge has rounded edges for large areas around the face and a flat surface for the hard to reach places like eyes and nose. When using this sponge with liquid foundations it creates a smooth flawless surface.

The Miracle Mini Eraser Sponges were created to help with erasing any mistakes and with buffing/blending. I love using mine to correct my eyeliner when I’m too heavy-handed on my wing and also to help blend in my concealer. Depending on the eyeshadow, I found that it can smear eyeshadow fallout.

The Miracle Sculpting Sponge is by far my favourite sponge of all. This sponge has a total of 6 surfaces and I reckon if you’re new to the makeup sponge craze, this is definitely the one to start off with. I really love this oddly shaped sponge. I use the larger side on majority of my face and the small end under the eyes and nose. Again you can use this damp for a dewy glow or dry for full coverage. I’ve only used this sponge with liquids and powder but you can definitely use with cream products too. When damp the sponge expands to about 1.5 in size and feels really nice on the face.

Not only are Real Techniques great quality, their products also are very Instagram worthy. Anyway I hope you enjoy this post, please leave a comment below if you also love Real Techniques as much as I do!

Get Unready With Me

I love the feeling of a freshly cleansed face.. nothing beats this after a long day at work. Lately my skin has been playing up a bit. I’m getting a lot of hormonal acne consistently popping up on my cheek so I thought I’d share a Get Unready With Me detailing step by step my night time skincare routine for healthier and clearer skin.

My everyday work look is pretty basic which consist of foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush and brows.

Here’s my skincare night time routine step by step:

Step 1: Firstly, I tie my hair up in a pony tail and then put on a headband to get rid of those pesky baby hairs around my forehead.

Step 2: Soak a cotton pad with micellar water and wipe around the face. I’m pretty thrifty and don’t like wasting so I usually turn over the cotton pad to the other side and use it to go over my neck. If I’m travelling, I replace this step with makeup remover wipes.

Step 3: Taking a cream cleanser (or foam cleanser), I massage my face in a circular motion to thoroughly remove any residual makeup. Then I wash off the cream cleanser and dry my face with a small towel.

I would like to emphasise that using a single cleanser to remove makeup is not enough. Even if it looks clean, there might still be some makeup residual left. By not removing all traces of makeup, it can block pores and cause acne. I have always double cleansed since I started wearing makeup.

Step 4: Depending if I have acne, I would apply some acne treatment. Products like diluted apple cider vinegar or drying lotion works a treat for me.

Step 5: As my skin is generally dry all year around, I apply a thick layer of moisturiser so it leaves my skin feeling amazing.

Step 6: Apply a thin layer of anti aging eye cream and now I’m set for bed time!
