Microdermabrasion at Australian Skin Clinics Emporium

Australian Skin Clinics Emporium

A couple of weekends ago, I was invited to Australian Skin Clinics Emporium to try out their 9-Step Microdermabrasion. The Australian Skin Clinics is located on level 3 of the Emporium in Melbourne and it’s quite a nice central location.

The clinic offers a range of services from medi-aesthetic peels to cosmetic injectables.

The 9-Step Microdermabrasion consist of cleansing, AHA/BHA mask, exfoliation, microdermabrasion, extractions, peel, nourishment, hydration and protection.

When I arrived at Australian Skin Clinics, I was greeted by their professional staff. I was given a short questionnarire to complete for the client profile. A couple of minutes later, I was handed an electronic consent form to read through and provide permission for the team to carry out the micro.

I was then greeted by my lovely beauty therapist, Kat.

The treatment started off with a face cleanse using Skinstitut gentle cleanser to remove my makeup and glycolic cleanser 12%. Kat took 5 facials photos to upload onto their system to help track progression. After the photos, it was time to start preping the skin for the micro. Glycolic scrub 14% was used and then AHA/BHA mask with steam for 3 minutes. The mask caused some tingling to the face, Kat explained that it was normal and that the steam will help to reduce the tingling sensation. The mask was removed using wet fiberella a few minutes later and now my skin is ready for the micro!

The machine that performs the physical microdermabrasion has a pen like gadget with a diamond tip. Kat used two types of tip, a standard size to go around the face and a smaller tip for around the nose area. The pen goes around the face by sections to remove congestion, dead skin and help improve skin circulation. All tools used by the team have been sterilised and individually wrapped so you know the tools being used are hygienic.

Now comes the extraction step of the treatment. This was my first time getting an extraction and it was quite an experience. My threshold for pain is unbelievably low so this was sooo painful. Kat tried to make it as comfortable and pleasant as possible but it’s just not for me. I’m too much of a wuss.

After the extraction was done, a pumpkin peel 20% was left on for 5 mins. Kat warned me it was going to feel quite warm on my face and held a fan to relieve the heat for me.

The peel was removed and Kat applied some Rejuvinate 15 and Age Defence SPF50+ Sunscreen.

Here’s a pic of Kat and I after the micro.

Immediately after the treatment, my face was quite flushed just like being sunburnt. Kat advised to stay out of the sun and no excessive exercising. The following couple of days, my face was dry and peeling. As soon as the peeling stopped at about day 6/7, my skin felt and looked amazing. It was so unbelievably smooth, my moisturiser was absorbing so much better too.

The following day of the treatment, one of the girls gave me a call to see how everything was going and if I had any questions or concerns. I was very surprised, I’ve never received a call after a micro or facial before so an A+ from me! How’s that for service?

The cost of the treatment is $120 and there’s a discount available if you purchase 3 treatments. The length of the treatment is around 45 minutes.

I’ve seen this place at the Emporium but never really thought much about it. I have always been wanting to try a microdermabrasion but I would never be able to suffer through all the peeling for days after, seeing as I have to go into work everyday! How long did you find the effects lasted for after the treatment?

I’ve walked past this place a few times too and it wasn’t until I received an email from their PR team that I started taking notice. They are also at Chadstone too.

Yeh I go to work with dry skin haha I slap on some BB cream so the dryness isn’t emphasised. It last me for a good 3 or so weeks but every person is different.
